Title: Strengthening School Food Systems to Improve Nutrition Among School-Age Children and Adolescents
Date: Tuesday, 1st December 2026, Lunchtime
Venue: University of Namibia, Hage Geingob Campus, Windhoek
Summary
Though global nutrition initiatives have rightly prioritized the first 1,000 days of life, school-age children and adolescents who are also substantially affected by malnutrition remain overlooked. School feeding programs are a major way in which malnutrition may be addressed in school-aged children and adolescents.
This symposium will share the latest research on school-age and adolescent nutrition and stimulate discussions on the importance of nutrition during the next 7,000 days of life. It will explore how school food systems can deliver effective, scalable interventions that support healthy growth, learning, and development. Discussions will also identify barriers to delivering nutritious school meals and practical actions to improve quality and advance universal coverage.
Speakers: Representatives from the African Technical working group for School Health and Nutrition, The Research Consortium of School Health and Nutrition, Catholic Relief Service, Children Investment Fund Foundation and Food for Education (F4E)
