Summary
Though early career researchers are well placed to identify locally relevant research questions because of their understanding of community needs, policy priorities, health systems, and cultural contexts, they often lack access to practical grant-writing support, mentorship, peer networks, and opportunities to translate strong research ideas into fundable projects. Hence, the need to strengthen the capacity of early career researchers’ (ECRs) to develop, lead, and manage grants is vital for sustainable research leadership in Africa.
